Thank you for an interesting article.

For Holvi.com, our testbed Finnish market allows us to use strong electronic authentication infrastructure provided by local banks. As part of our KYC process, the customer being onboarded is redirected to their existing bank where they login and confirm that their identity can be communicated to Holvi. As a response we receive the strongly verified SSN of the customer.

Very convenient, but unfortunately not a method that is widely available. But works wonders for our first batch of customers.

Vipul, thank you for your comment! You are right, Jibun Bank is a very innovative bank it is worth following them. Unfortunately instant account opening via mobile phone is not common in Europe.

Good article. Primarily focusing on European Banks

In my experience banks in JAPAC have also geared up to branchless banking and online instant account opening through internet and mobile. Japan has many banks offering virtual banking (no branches). E.g. Jibun Bank which offers instant online account opening via mobile phone. Mobile is the primary device for banking.

UBank in Australia offers opening of Savings, Term Deposits and Mortgage products online for Retail Customers and Trusts.
